PinkSS is a special project that was conceived in the mind of Traceton "Tray" Harding and given birth by several other members of WAIL. The idea is to transform a B-body from a simple grocery getter into a drag strip chewing, fire breathing monster. The final test will be a showdown on the Speed Channel television show "PINKS".
The PinkSS project started out with two WAILers, Tray Harding & Bradley Salemie, swapping out Tray's fuel pump at 11:00 p.m. one night. Tray half-jokingly suggested to Brad that we work with our impala brethren to build a B-body to race on the Speed Channel television show "PINKS".
The primary purpose/goal is to have fun with other members of the impala community. Although everybody wants to win the race, Tray & Brad strongly believe that just the sight of a B-body racing on TV will be victory enough. To the PinkSS team, winning isn't just taking home the other guy's car. Winning is knowing that the impala community put together a car and raced it on television.
When the donor car was finally found, the owner (Fred Diven) agreed to donate his car under one condition: If victorious, Fred wanted the B-body back (free of charge, no strings attached) so that he can continue to race it at impala and other drag racing events. Everybody agreed that Fred's request was extremely reasonable and the project was off the ground. The original PinkSS members also gave Fred the option of choosing which car he wanted after victory just in case the "losing" vehicle was a GTO. Fred absolutely loves GTO's.
The final decision has not yet been made as to what will happen with the remaining vehicle after the race (if we win). Be encouraged that something VERY positive will be done with whatever proceeds are generated. There have been many suggestions but a final decision has yet to be agreed upon by the PinkSS team. Some members have suggested selling the car and using the proceeds for something charitable. Others have suggested to simply keep racing the car. Whatever happens, one thing is for sure... If the PinkSS team loses the race, we lose the car; if we win, something good and positive will be done. Either way, we press onward because everybody still goes home happy knowing that we all had fun and will be forever captured in history.
The journey to PinkSS is sure to be a wild ride.
